VIKING BURIAL SITE – Oseberg, Norway

The Oseberg burial, discovered in 1904 near Tønsberg in the Oslo Fjord, is one of the richest archaeological finds of the Viking Age.
Dated to 834 CE, it contained a magnificent 21.5-metre ship and the remains of two high-status women. The ship’s fine craftsmanship and lavish decoration indicate that it served not as a warship, but as a royal yacht intended for ceremonial use and coastal travel.
